1946 Oldsmobile Tommy Chongs “first Electric Lowrider”

Our latest offering combines more than a few interesting historical points…. a 1946 Oldsmobile Staffcar, Tommy Chong ownership history, as well as a conversion for an EV(electric vehicle) project named “The Ace” the first fully powered electric low-rider.

Tommy Chong well known for his participation in the comedy duo “Cheech and Chong” has always had an interest in out of the ordinary cars. His rides included a Citroen SM (which needs no introduction) 1950 Jaguar Mark VIII as well as purchasing one of the first Tesla Model S Cars.

This 1946 Oldsmobile was languishing (waiting for Tommy….) in Southern California (instrument free)but according to informed sources this Olds was a staff car commissioned for use in Australia. Tommy had owned the car for some years before getting the inspiration to do an Electric Vehicle Conversion in the early 2000’s

Unfortunately, Operation Nice Dreams (a US Federal Govt operation to prosecute for sales of marijuana glass bongs)delayed this for a few years. A determined Tommy commissioned the various aspects of the project: electric motor/batteries controls….as well as a bitchin(not Bob Bitchin)air ride to give the car attitude…or…altitude

A matte black finish with custom art and designs by legendary car artist (Doc) made the car show worthy….and for some years, it performed well in that capacity. Various designs of components came and went, including a HUGE sound system for use in 420 friendly shows, CES (consumer electronics show-Las Vegas-Featured in the Orion booth) and other expos. However, through the past 10 years or so battery technology evolved as well as motor/control to present day. The Ace needs to be repowered, either as an electric or internal Combustion engine.
